Pyongyang Repeatedly Fires Artillery Shells To Warn Seoul

On October 18th, Pyongyang fired about 250 artillery shells at Seoul, and a few hours later on Oct 19th, the South Korean military said that North Korea launched about 100 more shells. In light of the tensions on the Korean Peninsula, South Korea started its annual Hoguk defense drills on Monday, aiming to boost their ability to address the threats of North Korean nuclear missiles. The North Korean military warned South Korea that it should immediately stop the provocative action in the frontline areas and said later the shots were designed to send a “serious warning” and “powerful military countermeasure” to South Korea. In response, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department called on North Korea to cease all provocative and threatening actions.
