University Students At Communication Of China, Nanjing, Flash Lights And Sing ‘The Internationale’ Anthem

On November 26th, according to the news from Twitter’s self-media account, students from Communication University of China, Nanjing spontaneously gathered at the Bell Tower to pay tribute to the victims in the Xinjiang fire. The school turned off all the lights and plunged into darkness. The students turned on their cell phone lights, shouted slogans, and sang “The Internationale” to express their strong dissatisfaction with the authorities. On the same day, a female student was reportedly on the steps of the bell tower, holding a white paper as a protest. The paper was soon taken away by a man in black. Students gathered around the building, questioning and demanding reasons for the removal of the paper. Gradually, the crowd grew larger and larger, and the school, fearing trouble, turned off the campus lights. The students, undaunted, turned on their cell phone torches and waved their lights, shouting “Long live the people,” and “Rest in peace to the deceased.” The instructor, who had arrived in an emergency, was overbearing, but left in a haze of accusations. The vice dean of the campus then showed up and threatened that “one day you will pay for what you have done,” to which the students responded with, “Above head three feet are gods”. This idiom expresses that no matter how powerful one is, God will always be watching and judging them. Led by “The Internationale” playing outside, the protesting students sang along, expressing their reverence for life and their desire for freedom. Since the (June 4th) Tiananmen Square Massacre, 1989, spontaneous protests by university students have been very rare. The students at Communication University of China, Nanjing, are just, and they protest well, without being violent or overbearing. These protests will inspire many people to rise up and rebel against tyranny without sacrificing their lives. A white piece of paper frightens the dictator, while a raised arm and a high head will terrify the dictator. As Miles Guo said, the moment people stop being afraid to stand up and let out their roars, the death knell will sound for the dictator.
