U.S. Defense Secretary: U.S. Forces Ready To Defend Taiwan At Any Time

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lyold Austin said in a recent interview, the president’s meaning in this regard is very clear: the U.S. military is ready to defend its interests and fulfill its commitments.

President Biden made clear publicly for the fourth time in an exclusive interview on September 18th that he would send troops to assist in Taiwan’s defense if it were to come under attack. Secretary of Defense Austin told the public during an interview on September 30th, the United States will continue its ongoing efforts to work with allied partners to ensure that a free and open Indo-Pacific region can be maintained in a manner consistent with the Taiwan Relations Act. He also stated that the U.S. military is always ready to defend its interests and fulfill its commitments.

Austin said currently a major concern is the increase in the number of Communist China’s military aircraft crossing the centerline of the Taiwan Strait and the frequent naval vessel activity in the waters around Taiwan. He said that the U.S. will continue to work on ensuring it has the right capabilities in the right places to assist allies in maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
