Hong Kong Tourism Was Bleak During Lunar New Year Holiday Week

After Communist China reopened its borders on January 8, Hong Kong government and tourism sector were optimistic about post-Lunar New Year visits and expected full recovery. But according to the latest data, on the first day of the holiday, only 18,635 tourists entered Hong Kong, including 10,082 tourists from the mainland, which was only 5% of the mainland visitors who traveled to Hong Kong on the first day in 2019. In addition, about 50,000 tourists entered Macau on January 22. According to the Hong Kong Immigration Department, there were 30,406 arrivals and departures on the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday, including 18,635 arrivals, which counted only about 37% of the visitors to Macau. Besides10,082 arrivals from the mainland, 8,553 tourists traveled from other countries. Among the visitors from the mainland, 3,126 passengers entered Hong Kong via the airport. 2,573 visitors travelled via West Kowloon of the Express Rail Link, 1,903 via Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, and 712 via Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Additionally, 172 people visited via Man Kam To, 1,189 via Shenzhen Bay, 190 via China Ferry Terminal, and 217 via Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal. These numbers of visitors between the mainland and Hong Kong show that there was no tourism recovery as the CCP and the Hong Kong government had hoped. The CCP’s attempt of reviving economic growth by stimulating Chinese consumer spending is simply not working. The Chinese people are not in the mood to travel, nor do they have the money. Based on what we have learnt about post-Lunar New Year tourism, Hong Kong is becoming an island with no future and no hope after several Hong Kongers who betrayed Hong Kong and handed it over to the CCP. Supporting Hong Kong, revolution of the times.
