European Parliament Adopts Two Annual Reports & Include Provisions In Support Of Taiwan

The European Parliament in Strasbourg led by the Foreign Affairs Committee voted on the 18th to adopt the 2022 ‘Common Foreign and Security Policy’ (CFSP) and the ‘Common Security and Defense Policy’ (CSDP) implementation report. The report calls Taiwan a key partner of the EU and calls on the European Commission to establish a strategic partnership with Taiwan. According to the Central News Agency, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman David McAllister said at a press conference that the international situation took the biggest turn in 2022 since the Cold War that the EU will not only strengthen its defense and respond to the Russia-Ukraine war, but it will also be more active in the Indo-Pacific region. The two reports focus on Communist China’s military buildup in the South China Sea and provocations against Taiwan and reiterate their firm opposition to any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait. Also to call on Communist China to stop all actions that is threatening the regional stability and actions that have a direct impact on Europe’s security and prosperity. The reports emphasize Taiwan as a key partner of the EU and an ally of democracy in the Indo-Pacific region. They also express a spirit of solidarity with the people of Taiwan and calls on the European Commission and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to establish a ‘strategic partnership’ with Taiwan.
