Republican Senators Urge Biden To Swiftly Develop Comprehensive Strategy To Counter CCP’s Threat

On Nov 17th, senior Republican senators Mitt Romney and Jim Risch jointly signed a letter to President Joe Biden, urging his administration to rapidly take measures to develop a comprehensive strategy in response to Communist China’s threat according to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022. Mitt Romney and Jim Risch are reportedly the ranking member of the foreign relations subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and international cybersecurity policy and ranking member of the Senate foreign relations committee respectively. They believed despite Communist China’s integration into the global economy, Beijing demonstrated no expected enhancement in terms of greater liberalization, compliance with global commercial rules or the fostering of personal freedoms. Meanwhile, CCP’s brutal crackdown on Uyghurs and Hong Kongers, expanding military installations in the South China Sea, and predatory economic practices have severely undermined the political and economic balance across the region and developed a fiercely competitive landscape with Washington in terms of geopolitical strategy and economy. However, America’s response to CCP’s strategic initiatives is ad hoc, tardy, and largely ineffective. Consequently, both senators urged Biden administration to swiftly develop a comprehensive strategy against Communist China according to section 6511 of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2022 and requested the White House to provide them with the update of the progress of implementing section 6511 within 60 days of the receipt of the letter.
