The U.S. Lend-Lease Act for Ukraine Comes into Force

The U.S. Lend-Lease Act for Ukraine went into effect on October 1st at local time, meaning that Ukraine would start receiving additional and higher-quality weapons, the Ukrainian Parliament Speaker posted on his social media accounts. According to media reports, US President Biden signed into law the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act on May 9th this year, considerably streamlining the administrative processes for the US to give Ukraine military support and other essential resources.

During World War II, the US Congress adopted the Lend-Lease Act in order to supply the Allies with military equipment while the country itself stayed out of the war. In addition to several other nations that received aid, most of the US’ assistance during World War II went to Britain. The US resumed this bill after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian War.
