Biden to Sign Executive Order on Biotechnology Responding Competition from CCP

On Sept 10th, according to individuals familiar with the matter, President Biden is preparing to sign an executive order to help the United States expand in the bio-manufacturing field, and reduce its dependency on communist China.

The United States has one of the strongest biotechnology industries in the world. Although it is a leader in developments and research, it allows high-tech production to be moved abroad. Recently, U.S. national security and intelligence officials have been particularly concerned about the U.S. relying on the biomanufacturing infrastructure in communist China.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to the United States and the world at large has grown dramatically. Which led to the US working to improve the competitiveness of its domestic manufacturing sector out of concern for national security. The Biden administration’s executive order on biotechnology lays out a strategy to support domestic manufacturing that will support them using biological systems to create a range of products and materials, including new medicines and human tissue, as well as biofuels and food.

In addition to healthcare, the U.S. will work to advance biomanufacturing in agriculture, energy and other industries. The White House said improving domestic biomanufacturing will reduce costs and enhance supply chain security. In May, China’s National Development and Reform Commission released a five-year plan for the development of the bioeconomy, which includes new technologies, healthcare, agriculture and fuels.
