CCP officials swabbing fish mouths, underside of crabs for Covid-19

It is reported that fishermen in Xiamen, a Chinese coastal city, are undergoing a sample test of Covid-19. The fish they catch also received the same “treatment” from the Chinese Communist Party authority. In China’s efforts to stop the spread of Covid-19, even marine life enjoy the same treatment as citizens in the country.

According to the Guardian, while Communist China maintains a Zero-Covid commitment, government officials of this city are working hard to ensure that the virus have no ways to slip through, ordering all fishermen and their catches to undergo Covid-19 tests every day.

According to the Political and Legal Committee of Jimei District of Xiamen City, it is necessary to swab the returning workers and their “materials” immediately after landing every day, because some fishermen illegally trade at sea or come into contact with overseas ships, “resulting in the import of the coronavirus.”

“At present, all people in Xiamen city need nucleic acid testing, and the fish catches must be tested as well,” an employee at the Xiamen Municipal Ocean Development Bureau told local media.

The Guardian reports with reference to local TV news, showing that officials were unexpectedly wiping the fish’s mouth and the bottom of the crab. No virus has been detected so far.

These rules were announced at the end of last month and made headlines this week, which appear preposterous to social media users. A related tag has been read 120 million times, and more than 6,000 people have discussed it on Weibo.
