Hamada’s First Phone Conversation with U.S. Defense Secretary Since Taking Office

According to a report on Aug 16th, in the morning same day, the new Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada had his first telephone conversation with U.S. Defense Secretary Austin since he took office.

During the talks, they strongly condemned the Communist China for launching the ballistic missile on 4th of this month, which is believed to have landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ). They also confirmed that Japan and the United States will work together seamlessly to respond to any possible situation.

They also agreed on the importance of defense cooperation between Japan, U.S. and South Korea due to their concerns about North Korea conducting nuclear experiments.

Minister Hamada stated that he’s intending to work with Secretary Austin in the future to strengthen the deterrence and response capabilities of the U.S.-Japan alliance, as well as preserve and enhance a free and open Indo-Pacific Ocean.
