82% of Japanese Believe that China’s Military Exercises in the Taiwan Strait have Affected Japan’s Security Environment

After U.S. House speaker Pelosi visited Taiwan, Communist China conducted a series of military exercises in the Taiwan Strait, firing several missiles and rockets, some of which landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

 According to a poll, 82% of Japanese people surveyed believe that China’s military exercises around Taiwan have affected Japan’s security environment.

 When the media interviewed 1,223 people over the age of 18 across the country between August 3rd and August 5th and was asked whether China’s military exercises near Taiwan had affected Japan’s security environment, 40 percent of respondents thought it would “have a big impact” and 42 percent said it would “have some degree of impact,” so a total of 82 percent said it would have an impact. 8% of respondents said it was “not very impactful” and only 1% thought it was “completely unaffectable”.

 As to whether the global nuclear threat is currently rising, 34% of respondents believe that it is “very high”, 46% of respondents believe that there is “some degree of increase”, 10% of respondents think it is “not very elevated”, and only 2% of respondents think that it is “not elevated at all”.
