Zelensky Asks for Talks with Xi and Invites China to Rebuild Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the South China Morning Post on Thursday that he wanted to discuss the war against Russia directly with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Russia’s closest ally, and invite the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to help rebuild Ukraine when the war is over.

For the first time since the invasion of Ukraine in February, Zelensky discussed the matter in the Asian news media, despite the fact that the Chinese Communist Party is buying large amounts of Russian oil and gas to indirectly finance the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky expressed the hope that the Communist China, as a second-largest economic power and a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, would review its stance on Russia’s acts of war and be able to influence Russia politically and economically. He wanted to speak directly with Xi and claimed he had a conversation with him a year ago.

Zelensky also expressed the hope that the CCP would play a role in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war by allowing its companies access to the Ukrainian market.

He said at an event with students in Australia on Wednesday: “I would like China to join the united international position regarding Russia’s tyranny against Ukraine. Today, China is balancing, retaining neutrality. I will say honestly, this neutrality is much better than China joining Russia.” The CCP has yet to respond to this.

The CCP appears to be neutral on the Russian-Ukrainian war, however, according to Miles Guo’s intelligence, the CCP does support Russia’s aggression, so it is unlikely that the CCP will take a righteous stance against Ukraine or participate in sanctions against Russia.
