Ford’s July EV Sales Increased Over 168% YOY, Second Only to Tesla in U.S.

During July 2022, Ford Motor Company sold 30,648 electric vehicles, an increase of 168.7% year-over-year. This makes Ford the second most delivered electric vehicle brand in the US after Tesla.

There were several models contributing to Ford’s increase in sales for the month. It is estimated that Mach-E sales increased by 74.1% at 4,970 units, while E-Transit sales increased by 13.9% in the commercial market and 46.3% in government contracts.

In addition, the F-150 Lightning pure electric pickup truck sales set a new record for monthly deliveries, reaching 2,173 units in July. The vehicle officially went into production on April 26th this year, with its first deliveries on May 26th. Ford’s EV sales have been growing for the past six months, and July’s sales made Ford the “No. 1 brand in America.”This year, Ford sold 63,341 F-Series models, surpassing 60,000 units for the first time. Ford’s SUV sales increased 70% YOY to 73,234 units, and E-Transit has a market share of 95% in electric vans, according to Andrew Frick, Vice President of Sales, Distribution and Vans for Ford Blue.

Ford’s market share in the EV market is expanding, which increased to 7.7% in the second quarter of 2022, while only 4.4% in the first quarter. And in July, it reached 10.9%. In addition, Ford’s July sales of EV increased Ford’s overall sales by 36.6% YOY and 7.7% MOM.

In contrast, the sales of other brands are not optimistic. Among them, Honda’s July sales in the U.S. fell 47.4% YOY, Toyota in North America fell 21.2%, Mazda in the U.S. fell 28.5%, and Subaru in the U.S. fell 17.1%. This means that EV are taking over the market of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
