Blinken Criticizes CCP For Taking Global Concerns As ‘Hostage’

On August 6th, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Communist China should not hijack talks on important global issues such as the climate crisis. Beijing held a military exercise off the coast of Taiwan on August 4th, and cut off contacts with the U.S. on important issues on the next day, including military affairs and critical climate cooperation in retaliation against U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan on August 2nd. Relations between Washington and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have plummeted to their lowest level in years.Blinken spoke at a joint online news conference after meeting newly elected President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and other senior officials in Manila. “We should not hold hostage cooperation on matters of global concern because of differences between our two countries,” Blinken said.He also cited collaboration on climate change as a key area where the CCP shut down contact that “doesn’t punish the United States — it punishes the world.”“The world’s largest carbon emitter is now refusing to engage on combatting the climate crisis,” said Blinken. The Secretary also criticized Communist China’s launch of ballistic missiles into the waters near Taiwan as a dangerous and destabilizing action.“What happens to the Taiwan Strait affects the entire region. In many ways it affects the entire world because the Strait, like the South China Sea, is a critical waterway,” he said, nearly half of the world’s container fleet and nearly 90% of the world’s largest ships pass through this channel.
