U.S. Lawmakers Introduced Bill To Bar CCP From Purchasing American Land

U.S. Senators Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) introduced the “Securing American’s Land from Foreign Interference Act” to prohibit members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from buying “any land” in the United States and warned that its purchase of farmland in the United State would “undermine our national security,” according to media reports on August 4th.

“Chinese investment in American farmland put our food security at risk and provides opportunities for Chinese espionage against our military bases and critical infrastructure,” Cotton said in a statement. “Instead of allowing these purchases, the U.S. government must bar the Communist Party from purchasing our land.”

In the same release, Sen. Tuberville called China as America’s “top adversary”, and said allowing CCP to purchase land in United States would “undermine our national security.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports that CCP’s investors’ holdings of U.S. agricultural land have soared from just 13,720 acres in 2010 to 352,140 acres in 2020.
