China’s Ambassador to France Lu Shaye warns the Taiwanese will be re-educated

In an interview on France’s BFMTV network, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ambassador to France said once China absorbs Taiwan, the Taiwanese will be re-educated.

Ambassador Lu Shaye accused Taiwan’s government has spread a lot of anti-Chinese propaganda to manipulate the Taiwanese to oppose reunifying Taiwan with the mainland.

The ambassador said re-education of Taiwanese is necessary to embrace the reunification, and the Taiwanese will become Chinese patriots. Many observers pointed out the term re-education has been referenced in describing the Chinese government’s treatment of the Uighurs and other ethnic minorities, including Muslims in Xinjiang.

Chinese authorities have sentenced 1-2 million people to vocational education and training centers.

Human rights groups and governments say the educational center is part of large-scale detention. Lu Shaye denies that re-education takes place under threat and likens it to a French education of Republican values for students.

People have questioned Beijing’s stance on people thinking “correctly” based on the CCP’s position on any topic. The CCP wants to dissuade any resistance to its philosophy and attitudes. Lu Shaye said resistance is not the problem.

Lu Shaye said the method of resistance adopted by Taiwan authorities is like cutting Italian sausages, pushing forward little by little. If China does not respond, eventually, Taiwan will achieve its goal of independence.

In the past, Lu Shaye said, most Taiwanese favored becoming part of the CCP. It is not clear what prompted Lu Shaye to say this.
