White House: Pelosi is Entitled to Visit Taiwan and Will not be Threatened by Beijing

It is reported on August 1st that White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby told the press on Monday that Beijing is anticipated to intensify its response to a potential trip to Taiwan by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in next few days, aside from missile launches close to Taiwan, Communist China may also engage in large-scale air or maritime operations or make more “false legal claims,” like alleging that the Taiwan Strait is not an international waterway. Washington will not fall for it and will not flaunt our power. At the same time, America will not be intimidated.
According to people familiar of the matter, Pelosi will travel to Taiwan on Tuesday. Beijing has warned that its military will not “stand aside” if Pelosi visits the self-governed island over which the Communist regime alleged sovereignty.

Despite worries that intensified tensions could result in misjudge or unexpected events during Pelosi’s visit, Kirby said the U.S. Government has a responsibility to make sure she can travel “safely and steadily.”
