Thousands of UK Enterprises Cut Ties with China Amid Rising Tensions

Thousands of UK companies are cutting economic ties with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in anticipation of an imminent acceleration of decoupling between the Communist China and the West, according to a major UK business group.

Tony Danker, director general of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), said thousands of UK companies are now reconsidering their supply chains in anticipation of increased anti-CCP political sentiment.

Danker said the UK needs to “build new strategic alliances in the world” as tensions rise with Communist China. In Washington, the need for companies to build “resilience” in preparation of a divorce from Communist China was “all they are talking about,” he noted.

The UK will need to find new trading partners and reconnect with old ones, such as the European Union, Danker said.

Communist China has emerged as a key foreign policy battleground between the two final contenders for the Conservative Party leadership and the British prime minister.

Both Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and former Chancellor Rishi Sunak pledged to curb the CCP regime’s threat to Britain’s national security and economic security.Truss’s campaign stated that she would continue to strengthen Britain’s position on Communist China and help lead “the international response to increased Chinese aggression. “
