Ukrainian Food Tycoon killed in Mykolaiv by Russian Army

An influential businessman from Ukraine and his spouse were killed in a massive shelling of Mykolaiv in the south of Russia.

Oleksiy Vadaturskyi and his wife, Raisa, were killed after a missile struck their home overnight, according to local officials.

Mr. Vadaturskyi is the owner of Nibulon, a grain exporting company. He also won the “Hero of Ukraine” award.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Mr. Vadaturskyi’s death was a huge loss.

Oleksandr Senkevych, the Mayor of Mykolaiv has described it as the most intense Russian bombardment of the city ever.

A hotel, a sports complex, two schools and a service station, as well as residences, were damaged.

Mykolaiv has been repeatedly attacked since Russia launched its invasion on 24 February, as it is situated on the main route to Odessa, Ukraine’s largest port on the Black Sea.

Local officials say some of Mykolaiv’s homes were destroyed in the recent Russian shelling.

The region leader Vitaliy Kim expressed his gratitude for Mr Vadaturskyi’s contribution to agricultural and shipbuilding industries, as well as the development of the region.

A member of the office of President Zelenskyy believes that the businessman was intentionally targeted by Russia.

Mykhailo Podolyak said one of the missiles hit the businessman’s bedroom, adding that it must be guided.

Nibulon has built many storage facilities and other infrastructure for food exports.
