Drone explosion hits Russia’s Black Sea Fleet headquarters

The Associated Press reported on July 31st that a small explosive device fitted on a makeshift drone hit the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet on the Crimean Peninsula on Sunday, injuring six people, forcing the Russian navy to cancel its honorary ceremonies. So far, there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the drone explosion. A Russian lawmaker from Crimea told the Russian news agency that the drone was launched from Sevastopol, Crimea.

Crimean authorities already upgraded the terrorism level for the region to “yellow,” the second-highest.

The Black Sea Fleet’s press service said that the drone looked like homemade and the explosion was low-power, but it still caused the observances of Russian Naval Day holiday to be canceled.

Ukrainian officials responded, “Did the occupiers admit the helplessness of their air defense system? Or their helplessness in front of the Crimean partisans?”

If such an attack is from Ukraine, then destruction of the Crimean bridge connecting Russia and Crimea is no longer unrealistic. At the same time, a grain merchant, one of the richest in Ukraine, was killed by Russian missiles directly targeting his home.
