U.S. Senate Warns Apple not to Use CCP Produced Chips

On September 9th, Republican lawmakers Marco Rubio and Michael McCaul warned Apple that it would face intense congressional scrutiny if the company uses chips made in communist China for the new iPhone 14.

According to reports, Apple’s supplier list includes communist China-backed Yangtze Memory Technology Corp (YMTC). When asked about possible investigations, Apple said iPhones built using YMTC’s chips were only sold to Chinese users and that the data stored was encrypted.

YMTC has extensive ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s military, and its sales to Huawei violated export control laws. Apple will also transfer intellectual property rights to YMTC, which will make YMTC stronger, help the CCP achieve its national goals, and pose a great threat to U.S. national security. In July, lawmakers called for YMTC to be placed on the Entity List. In recent months, lawmakers have asked Apple some related questions about YMTC but have yet to receive an answer.

Recently, Miles Guo also broke the news that the United States is currently carrying out a series of legislation on decoupling from the CCP’s technology sector. Apple’s cooperation with the CCP has been widely criticized, and the communist dictatorship’s strong support of YMTC could destroy the chip market, giving communist China greater control over this critical national security technology. The Biden administration is trying to keep the country out of cutting-edge technology when it comes to technology.
