Canadian Pro-Democracy Activist Wanted by Hong Kong Government

According to a report on August 27th, former Sing Tao Daily editor-in-chief Victor Leung-mau Ho is now wanted by Hong Kong Police for violating the National Security Law because of his recent advocacy work to establish the Hong Kong “Parliament in Exile” committee in Toronto, Canada.

As the first native Canadian citizen wanted under the Hong Kong National Security Law, Leung-mau Ho, who now lives in British Columbia, said that since the Beijing-controlled Legislative Council of Hong Kong is not elected by the people, the purpose of establishing an overseas parliament is to give a voice to all Hong Kong people and to show the world its determination and courage not to succumb to the suppression of the Hong Kong Communist government.

In this regard, Vancouver MP Jenny Kwan and Edmonton MP Mike Faison called on the federal government to take a stand to ensure the safety of Leung-mau Ho. They also stressed that the rights and freedoms of Canadian citizens cannot be violated by foreign powers and that it is illegal to be accused and wanted by the Chinese Communist Party.
