Canada sanctions Russians responsible for Ukraine Child abductions

According to a report by Toronto Star on August 25, the federal government recently sanctioned Maria Lvova-Belova, a Russian official who masterminded the abduction of thousands of Ukrainian children, for allegedly trafficking local children from the Luhansk and Donetsk regions to Russia.

Reports say that while Lvova-Belova is being sanctioned and held accountable for her crimes, Canada is assisting the Ukrainian government in investigating 28,000 suspected child abductions during the war and trying to get all of these victims back. Thousands of Ukrainian children are known to have been trafficked from border areas blocked by Russian forces to Russian orphanages and foster homes.

A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said that Russian kidnappings of innocent children, most of them orphans, were extremely vicious and had inflicted untold pain on countless Ukrainian families, and that the main perpetrators must be severely punished for this.
