Ukraine Congress Established a 15-Member Group of Taiwan Friendship

China Défense Ministry stated on Wednesday 17th, that the PLA would go to Russia to participate in the joint military drill among Russia, India, Belarus, Tajik, and Mongolia. In response to this, Ukraine Congress immediately set up a 15-member group of Taiwan friends as the official bridge to promote the founding of the Ukraine Taiwan Representative Office. Chairman of Ukraine Congress Foreign Diplomatic Committee, Oleksandr Merezhko said to the media, that he and his Congress colleagues would set up a cross-party team to support the friendship with Taiwan. At present, there are 15 members in this group and hopes to develop relations with Taiwan in economic, cultural, and humanitarian aid as well as other fields. Merezhko said the reason to establish the Taiwan Friendship Groupe is to appreciate Taiwan against the invasion of Russia to Ukraine, especially the sanction on Russia, as well as supplied millions of U.S. dollars to help rebuild the damaged cities in Ukraine. In addition, Ukraine cherishes the common values that Taiwan has the same democracy, human rights, and freedoms as Ukraine. “In this global confliction of freedom and dictatorship, Taiwan stands alongside with Ukraine.” He said the Taiwan Friendship Group could become the official-level cooperation bridge between dual-side Congress members. This might promote setting up the Ukraine Taiwan Representative Office. Since the Russia/Ukraine invasion, Beijing not only didn’t condemn the invasion but also cooperated with Russia to spread false information, and even attempted to normalize the invasion of Russia to Ukraine. Ukraine society is disappointed with the stance of CCP China. Some Ukraine Congress members appealed to cancel the “strategic partner” with the CCP because it is not in line with the current relations between the two countries. At the same time, some Congress members proposed to deepen the cooperation relations in the economic and political sectors with Taiwan.
