U.S. Lawmakers Arrived Taiwan to Meet Tsai and Parliamentarians for Regional Stability

It is reported that a bipartisan delegation of U.S. lawmakers arrived in Taiwan on the evening of August 14th. On the next day, the delegation met with President Tsai Ing-wen at the office of the President in Taipei. They visited the Legislative Yuan and met with members of the Taiwan legislature’s foreign affairs and defense committee.

It is part of visit in the Indo-Pacific region led by Senator Ed Markey (D). U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan earlier this month sparked a protest from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Tsai welcomed the delegation. “At a special critical time to express your friendship toward the country,” she said, Taiwan will work with the United States to jointly maintain the prosperity and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, and build a secure supply chain working with democratic countries.

Markey praised Taiwan’s democracy, saying he would work hard to protect Taiwan’s peace and stability, and “We have a moral obligation to do everything we can to prevent an unnecessary conflict.”

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Lo Chih-cheng attended the meeting with lawmakers in Legislative Yuan, where they exchanged views on regional security and the military situation. They confirmed their shared commitment to upholding democratic values.
