Despite Military Drills Coming to An End, Taiwan Says CCP’s Threat Still Exists

It is reported on August 11th, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen said on Thursday that the threat of Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s force has not diminished, despite CCP’s largest-ever military exercise around the island coming to an end.

The CCP was angered by Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan last week and her claim of Taiwan’s sovereignty. Therefore, the CCP has launched ballistic missiles and deployed multiple aircraft and warships in recent days to simulate maritime and air attacks.

Taiwan has also been conducting relatively small-scale annual exercises aimed at preparing to repel CCP’s invasion. According to a statement from Tsai’s office, “At present, the threat of Chinese military force has not decreased, we will firmly defend our sovereignty … and adhere to the line of defence of democracy and freedom.”

A source briefed with the matter told the media that the number of warships near the center line of the Taiwan Strait, an unofficial buffer zone, was “greatly reduced” from the previous days. But sources familiar with security planning said several CCP’s navy ships were on duty on the east coast of Taiwan and near the Japanese island of Yonaguni on Thursday.
