British Foreign Affair Secretary Summoned CCP’s Ambassador to UK

According to reports on 11th August, British Foreign Affair Secretary Liz Truss had summoned Zheng Zeguang who is the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ambassador to the U.K., and requested him to explain Beijing’s aggressive actions against Taiwan following Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s visit.

After Pelosi’s Taiwan trip, in retaliation, the CCP had conducted its largest-scale military drills around Taiwan Strait. In a statement, Truss said, “I instructed officials to summon the Chinese Ambassador to explain his country’s actions. We have seen increasingly aggressive behavior and rhetoric from Beijing in recent months, which threaten peace and stability in the region. The United Kingdom urges China to resolve any differences by peaceful means, without the threat or use of force or coercion.”

Truss, from the Conservative Party, is a serious contender to be the next British prime minister. She had previously pledged in the election campaign that as prime minister she would deepen ties with Commonwealth countries to counter Beijing’s influence and help Britain and other democracies win the global fight against dictators.
