Israel, Gaza Militants Exchange Fire, Likely to Turn into War

Recently, the conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip has escalated again. The exchange of fire began after Israel killed a Palestinian jihadist in a targeted counterterrorism attack. Bombardments rained down on both Israel and the Gaza Strip as tensions reached a crescendo.According to Israeli Defense Force (IDF) reports, six locations were attacked by fighter jets and armed drones this Friday afternoon. The attack killed Taiser al-Jabari, the senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander of the terrorist group’s northern Gaza branch.In Gaza, the Hamas-run Ministry of Health reported that at least five others, including a five-year-old girl, were killed in the attack.

The response from the Gaza forces was swift. However, the terrorist group Hamas does not seem to have been involved in the firefight.The skies above southern and central Israel were lit up by missiles from Israel’s Iron Dome. It is unclear how many rockets were launched. And no immediate casualties were reported on the Israeli side.

In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Defense Minister Benny Gantz said the operation’s goal was to eliminate threats against the Israeli citizens and civilians living near the Gaza Strip, as well as attacks by terrorists and their sponsors.
