German Bundestag MP’s Plans Visit to Taiwan by the End of October

The Human Rights Committee of the German Bundestag is planning to visit Taiwan by the end of October and all MPs from all parties are expected to participate in the trip. The meeting is anticipated to be scheduled for the last week of October, 22nd – 30th. In addition to Taiwan, the delegation will also travel to Japan and Hong Kong.

The German member of parliament (MP) emphasized that such a conference is ‘normal’ as Taiwan is a significant trading partner of Germany, particularly in the semiconductor industry. Representatives from all parties are supposed to be a part of the parliamentary delegation, including 2 representatives each from the largest parties, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU)/the Christian Social Union (CSU). A total of 8 parliamentarians will be attending the conference.

As expected, China’s Ambassador issued a warning to Germany against this upcoming visit by the delegates.
