The British Government had sanctioned Kabaeva in May and the EU had restricted her travel and assets in June. In April, Putin’s adult daughters Katerina Vladimirovna Tikhonova and Maria Vladimirovna Voronzova had been sanctioned by the U.S. as well.
Christian Contardo, a former Treasury attorney now at Lowenstein Sandler LLP mentioned, “What we’ve seen is that the US government has identified that a lot of oligarchs are using family as a way to evade sanctions.”
Furthermore, U.S. State Department reported that the visas of 893 Russian Federation Officials, including those of the Russian Federation Committee and military personnel, will all be frozen soon.
Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, again emphasized United States’ support for the “brave people of Ukraine and will continue to promote accountability for President Putin and his cronies whose actions have caused so much suffering and destruction in Ukraine.”
