Sullivan Urges Taiwan to Buy Better Weapons to Counter China

In an article, Bill Gertz talks about the need for the Pentagon to strengthen its defense industry in order to stop China from using force against Taiwan.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the Biden administration has expressed support for a U.S. weapons production program to support Taiwan’s defense against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) invasion and to avoid a repeat of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, he urged Taiwan’s political and military leaders to purchase weapons better suited to fight the CCP’s military in response to a possible “Russian-style” invasion.

The Pentagon is looking at ways to increase the capacity of the U.S. defense industrial base, as well as allied defense industries. This is to ensure it can produce weapons and other military equipment to deter enemies. The weapons the U.S. military has developed in recent months include a variety of artillery, coastal defense and naval mines. So far, the United States has provided more than $5.6 billion in weapons and other security assistance to Iraq.

Gertz’s previous article talks about the British Intelligence Department’s re-equipping for surveillance of the CCP, recognizing the British MI6 in response to the CCP threat.
