Russia Prepares Next for Ukraine Offensive in Face of New Western Weapons

A Ukrainian military official said Russia is preparing for the next stage of its offensive in Ukraine after Moscow said its forces would step up military operations in “all combat zones.”

As Western supplies of long-range weapons begin to help Ukraine on the battlefield, Russian rockets and missiles have struck cities that Kyiv says have killed dozens of people in recent days.

“It is not only missile strikes from the air and sea,” Ukrainian Military Intelligence spokesman Vadym Skibitskyi said Saturday evening. “We can see shelling along the entire line of contact, along the entire front line. There is an active use of tactical aviation and attack helicopters.”

“Clearly, preparations are now underway for the next offensive stage.”

The Ukrainian military said Russia appeared to be regrouping its forces for an offensive on Sloviansk, a symbolically important city owned by Ukraine in the eastern region of Donetsk.

Russia is also strengthening its defenses in areas it occupies in southern Ukraine after pressure from the Ukrainian army and pledges from Ukrainian leaders to drive them out, the British Ministry of Defense said on Sunday.
