Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, with strong financial resources, are rumored to have recently set up “government employee salary reduction departments.” These departments are to implement the regulations on salary reductions for government employees. Section-level officials in a district of Shenzhen, will see a reduction by more than 20%. Previously, with various bonus subsidies, the annual salary could reach about 370,000 Yuan. A 20% to 50% salary reduction is imposed for a Deputy Section-Level Cadre in a certain district of Jiangsu Province, a cut of about 100,000 Yuan.

Inland areas will not have the salary cuts like those in the economically developed coastal areas.
