UK Foreign Minister: Learn from Russia’s Invasion to Keep Taiwan Strait Peaceful

On June 30th, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said in an interview, that we need to learn from the war in Ukraine, that is, we could have ensured that Ukraine could have a defensive capability earlier. It is also necessary to apply this lesson to the Taiwan Strait issue in order to protect peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

Ms. Truss said that if Ukraine had been given the necessary defensive weapons earlier, it would have formed a deterrent force that would have more effectively prevented Russia’s Putin from invading Ukraine. We need to adopt this more positive attitude toward sovereign states such as Taiwan. Western countries, especially those in the Indo-Pacific region, must ensure that Taiwan can gain the necessary defensive capabilities.

At a panel meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) meeting held in Spain on the 29th, Truss said that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is expanding its influence through economic coercion and building a strong army, and the Communist regime may indeed have wrong ideas, leading to catastrophic miscalculations, thus invading Taiwan. Truss also replied in an interview, that we need to be sure that the free world is working together to ensure that Taiwan has the necessary defense capabilities.
