Zelenskyy: Ukraine Peace Talks Over if Russia Kills last Defenders in Mariupol

On April 16th, news media reported that Russia renewed its airstrikes on Kyiv and intensified its offensive on Mariupol. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy warned that Russia-Ukraine peace talks would be ended if the last defenders of Mariupol were killed.

Although Russia claimed that it has captured Mariupol, the Ukrainian fighters are actually remaining in the giant Azovstal steelworks in the south-eastern port. Igor Konashenkov, the chief spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, said that the Ukrainian soldiers could be saved by surrendering.

In response, president Zelensky warned that Russia-Ukraine peace talks will be terminated if the Mariupol fighters were killed.
