US Military General Believes The PRC Is America’s Greatest Threat In Africa

According to media reports on March 17, Michael Langley, the commander of US Africa Command and a general of the US Marine Corps, said at the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing last Thursday that the greatest threat to the United States in Africa was the PRC. This was not only for security reasons but also for economic competition. Langley specifically highlighted Communist China’s three aspirations in Africa when responding to questions from senators about what Africa should be paying attention to in the coming years. “”One from the geopolitical. They’re trying to change the international norms, and they’re using some of the African countries within the UN construct, whether it be General Assembly or the Security Council, trying to affect votes, to change those international norms in the international system. And then there’s a geo-strategic operation. There are aspirations for military bases on the continent of Africa. “” He added “”And the last piece, Senator, is geo-economic. Our future economy is dependent upon a number of rare earth minerals. And also some of our clean energy technologies depend upon the rare earth minerals. About 30% to 40% of those minerals are on the continent of Africa.””

In conclusion, General Langley said that he is concerned that the PRC is cornering the market through “”shaky deals”” with some of the countries.
