Zelenskyy Delivers Speech To U.S. Congress

After meeting with President Biden and holding a joint press conference at the White House on December 21st, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy delivered an impassioned speech to a joint session of the U.S. House and Senate that evening. He stated that Ukraine would never surrender in its battle with Russia and urged the United States to increase military assistance.

Zelenskyy touted Ukraine’s successes on the battlefield and said the West was united in its opposition to the Russian invasion. He said Ukraine has not fallen in the face of all the pessimistic and hopeless situations. Ukraine is still alive and kicking. Moreover, he noted that the assistance provided by the United States is not charity, but an investment in global security and democracy in the most responsible way. He also warned that the war between Russia and Ukraine is not only about the fate of Ukraine, but is also testing democracy around the world. Zelenskyy capped off his trip to Washington with this speech.
