U.S. And U.K. Team Up To Break Russia’s Control On Energy

The U.S. and British governments announced on Dec 7th that the establishment of the U.K.-U.S. Energy Security and Affordability Partnership would significantly diminish Kremlin’s influence over global energy.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated the partnership would bring down energy prices, not only benefiting British consumers but also helping end Europe’s energy dependence on Russia once and for all. The U.S. government has promised to double its export of liquified (LNG) to the U.K. next year.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development found that 40% of EU’s natural gas supplies depended on Russia before Moscow’s aggressive war against Kyiv. Sunak’s office said London and Washington would cooperate on areas ranging from hydrogen development to civilian nuclear energy and energy efficiency, and would collectively ensure global energy prices and supply security could never again be manipulated by the totalitarian regimes.

In addition, both sides agreed to restrict Russia’s energy exports by capping oil price and limiting its trading volumes.
