Hong Kong Outbreak Again Exceeds 10,000 Confirmed Cases per Day, Causing Uncertainty in Relaxation of Border Control after the 20th National Congress

Although Hong Kong claims to the public that it’s border has never been closed, the strict entry quarantine measures have deterred many overseas travellers.

Two months after taking office, the Communist Communist Party (CCP) installed Hong Kong Chief Executive, Li Ka-chiu is preparing to go to Guangdong to discuss the resumption of customs clearance to mainland China. But the original meeting was temporarily changed to an online meeting as politicians from the Establishment faction questioned whether this could be accomplished in the short term.

Hong Kong’s health department announced on Thursday (Sept. 1) that the number of newly confirmed cases of the CCP virus (COVID-19) in Hong Kong exceeded 10,000 again in a single day on Wednesday, reaching 10,586 cases.

Over the past week, numerous officials have warned that Hong Kong’s epidemic prevention measures may be tightened again. The news has the city’s society worried that the resumption of quarantine-free customs clearance may once again become a distant prospect.

The 20th National Congress of the CCP is scheduled to be held on October 16. There were rumours that Hong Kong’s border quarantine measures were expected to be relaxed after the 20th Congress, but now it seems this is unlikely to come true.
