Over 20,000 People Have been Reinfected in NSW This Year

According to a study, more than 20,000 people in NSW who were already infected with the CCP virus (COVID-19) in January were reinfected.
The NSW Department of Health investigated 639,430 cases of infection, all of which occurred during the January Omicron outbreak wave.
This study identified reinfection cases by matching the infected person’s name and birthday.
According to the research results, 20,460 people were re-infected with CCP virus over a five-month period, accounting for 3.2% of the January infections.
Reconfirmation of infection occurs four weeks after the end of a seven-day quarantine period or 36 days after a positive test.
According to Nick Wood, a paediatrician and immunologist at the University of Sydney, infecting CCP virus should produce some natural immunity, preventing people from becoming infected again.
He said that your past exposure to immunological agents, spontaneous infections, and vaccination status all likely influence how you respond to your subsequent infection.
Those who were immunosuppressed or who had persistent respiratory problems after the first infection, he said, would be more affected in subsequent infections.
“That’s all the difficulties in teasing it out how severe, but I think the general, the belief is that the second or third infection are probably less severe than the initial primary infection.”
