China Threatens Pelosi Three Times Not to Visit Taiwan

Media reports that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be traveling to Taiwan in August  triggered three CCP officials’ threats.

According to information released on July 24th by a number of sources, the CCP warned the US government with a “military response” if Pelosi was to be permitted to visit Taiwan.

The visit to Taiwan by Pelosi would have a “severe detrimental impact” on US-China relations, according to Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry. He also stated that the CCP will “take resolute and forceful measures to firmly defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.” And “If the US side is bent on going its own way, China will take strong measures to resolutely respond and counteract.”

After that, numerous media reported that the US Pentagon was concerned that the CCP might shoot down Pelosi’s plane while visiting Taiwan. In public statements, President Joe Biden also stated that the military did not believe that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was appropriate at this time.

The so-called “strong measures” of the CCP, according to some experts, are not strong enough to shoot down Pelosi’s plane, but they could be able to establish a no-fly zone over the Taiwan Strait or even “accompanying flights.”

According to media commentary, if Pelosi decides not to visit Taiwan due to the CCP’s threat, the United States’ credibility among its allies in the Asia-Pacific region will be severely harmed.
