U.S. Abandons ‘Strategic Ambiguity’ Policy towards Taiwan

Following a meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in Taiwan, former US Defense Secretary Mark Esper declared that the US one-China policy had failed and urged a departure from “strategic ambiguity,” reported on July 20th.

Espar led the Atlantic Council of the United States delegation to Taiwan for a three-day visit. President Tsai Ing-wen mentioned during the meeting about recent changes in the United States, Europe, and Taiwan, such as the challenges brought on by the pandemic, the rise of authoritarianism, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. These changes have served as a reminder of the need to fortify US-Taiwan democratic partners’ alliances in order to defend peace and the principles of democracy and freedom.

Esper encouraged Taiwan to demonstrate its resolve to defend itself and increase its friends’ and the United States’ support for Taiwan.

The one-China concept is the political cornerstone of China-US ties and a recognised international consensus, according to Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at the regularly scheduled press conference on July 19th. Communist China vehemently rejects any effort made by an entity or person to use the “Taiwan card,” meddle in its domestic affairs, or jeopardize its fundamental interests.

Zhao Lijian also stated that the US must not make arrangements for Speaker Pelosi to travel to the Taiwan region in response to her plans to lead a delegation to Taiwan in August of this year. Should the US side insist on doing otherwise, China will take strong and resolute measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Any resulting repercussions must be wholly the responsibility of the United States.

Miles Guo, the founder and leader of the Whistleblower Movement and the New Federal State of China (NFSC), has just started a series of exposure of Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s confidential military documents. These documents expose the CCP’s military plans for more than a decade and show the CCP’s ambition to occupy Taiwan. Miles said that the purpose of this series of military revelations is to save the people of Taiwan, and hope that ordinary people in Communist China will see clearly the evil nature of the CCP.
