Most districts in Shanghai are going through two rounds of testing after a new BA.5.2.1 sub-variant case was detected.

The highly transmissible variant BA.5 is believed to be the main reason for current CCP virus infection wave globally, which the Chinese authoritarian government has identified as a major threat to its zero-Covid strategy.

The city is facing a severe heatwave and rising CCP virus cases. As authorities in Shanghai raised the high temperature alert to the highest level, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius.

While Shanghai has not yet implemented a city-wide lockdown, official figures show that 240 neighborhoods have currently been marked as medium-risk or high-risk areas.
