Lithuania Expands Embargo List on Goods to Kaliningrad

According to a source on July 11th, the Lithuanian government has followed the EU’s sanction decision and expanded the list of prohibiting Russian goods that travel through Lithuania to the city of Kaliningrad.

Lithuanian Customs said the goods prohibited from transit include cement, wood, alcohol and other products. Expanded commodities prohibited will include coal starting August 10th, oil on December 5th and other petroleum products starting February 2023. Lithuanian Customs said all restrictions were based on EU sanctions or developed in consultation with the European Commission.

On June 18th, Lithuania started suspending the transit of goods, based on EU sanctions, to Kaliningrad via Lithuania. The Russian side called the move a “cross-border” and provocative act, demanding the resumption of transit traffic or Lithuania will suffer retaliatory measures.
