Heads of MI5 and FBI Warn of the Immense Threat Posed by the CCP

FBI Director Christopher Wray said the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is the biggest long-term threat to the American economy and national security. The CCP also interfered in politics, including recent elections, the BBC reported on July 6th.

MI5 head Ken McCallum said MI5 has more than doubled its work against CCP’s overseas activities in the last three years and would be doubling it again. Compared to 2018, MI5 is now running seven times the investigations related to CCP activities it did before.

Wray warned the chief executives of business and senior figures from universities that the CCP government is set on stealing your technology using various tools.

He added that the CCP uses cyber espionage to cheat and steal on a massive scale, and its hacking program is larger than every other major country combined.

McCallum also pointed out that Parliament intervened in the activities of Christine Lee in January. He said such operations are aimed to amplify pro-CCP voices and silence those who question its authority.

In the U.S., the FBI director said, the CCP had directly interfered in a congressional election in New York this spring because they did not want a candidate who was a critic and former protester at Tiananmen Square to be elected. They had done so by hiring a private investigator to dig up derogatory information. When they couldn’t find anything, they tried to use a sex worker to manufacture controversy and even staged a car accident.
