U.S. Lawmakers Propose Ban on Buying American Flags ‘Made in China’

On June 16th, Senators introduced a bill that would require the federal government to only buy American-made flags that are produced entirely on American soil. The bill is called the “All-American Flag Act.”

Currently the U.S. federal government can purchase flags that contain 50 percent American-made materials, and the bill would prohibit the federal government from purchasing and using flags that are not produced entirely with American-made materials and manufactured in the United States. A statistic shows that in 2015, the U.S. imported about $4.4 million worth of American flags, $4 million of which were imported from Communist China. In 2017, 9.95 million of the 10 million American flags imported into the U.S. came from the China. The senator said that probably half of the uniforms for U.S. military personnel are made in China. In order to support American manufacturing and American workers, taxpayer money should not be used to help manufacturing in other countries.
