CCP’s Third Aircraft Carrier Launched, claiming Independently Designed and Created

According to Xinhua News Agency on the 17th, the launching ceremony of the Fujian was held this morning. Fujian is the third aircraft carrier after the Liaoning and Shandong.

The launching ceremony was held at 11:00 a.m. at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, attended by Xu Qiliang, the head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) military, and with the consent of the CCP Central Military Commission, the warship was named “Fujian” and given the number 18.

Xinhua Agency said this is China’s first self-made ejection aircraft carrier, with a straight to length flight deck, equipped with electromagnetic catapult and blocking device, and a full load displacement of more than 80,000 tons. After it is launched, it will start mooring tests and navigation tests as planned.

Compared to the other two CCP’s carriers, the most obvious difference is that the Fujian does not continue to use the Soviet-era technology of a sliding deck, but is equipped with three electromagnetic ejection systems (EMALS), which not only take up less space, but also allow for faster takeoff of the carrier’s aircraft. EMALS technology is not invented by CCP, as the U.S. Navy successfully developed the technology a decade ago and installed it on the USS Ford aircraft carrier earlier.
