Pentagon: Communist China’s Attack On Taiwan Would Be Seen As Invading

According to a report on June 16th, the Pentagon’s Under Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl said on Tuesday that if Communist China invades Taiwan, it would likely lead to a global response that similar to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Kahl said at an event hosted by the Center for a New American Security(CNAS) think tank, “If I’m sitting in Beijing, I think the fundamental question to draw is, you know, if they were to commit an act of aggression sometime in the future, will the world react the way that it did when China snuffed out democracy in Hong Kong, or will the world react more like they did in the case of Ukraine,” Kahl also added, “I think it’s imperative for the leadership in Beijing to understand that, where the world is now, the Ukraine scenario is a much more likely outcome than the Hong Kong scenario.”

The U.S. would not be able to put Communist China under heavy sanctions as the American and Chinese economics are so intertwined, and it often take decades for the U.S. to reduce dependence on Communist China and reach a real decoupling.

Kahl believes the U.S. should be willing to fund Taiwan with military weapons to fight against Communist China, although Washington has sold weapons to Taiwan since 1979, but the military support is nowhere near what U.S. is providing Ukraine today.
