Pompeo Concerned about Potential CCP Political Takeover of Taiwan

Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo voiced concerns in an interview about the possibility of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) taking over Taiwan through non-military means.

According to Pompeo, Xi Jinping is sure to strengthen his ambition of annexing Taiwan when witnessing the gradual waning of Russia following the invasion of Ukraine and the ruble’s increase in value. Nevertheless, after learning lessons from Putin, Xi is most likely to take over Taiwan through manipulating politics, subduing Taiwan politicos with intimidation, and conducting secret operations rather than a military assault, rendering Taiwan the next Hong Kong, Inner Mongolia, Tibet, or even Xinjiang.

Pompeo indicated that the U.S. needs to offer other tools from more facets to stop Xi from taking over Taiwan through political means, besides providing Taiwan weapons against the CCP’s military attack.

Observers pointed out that Pompeo’s statement confirmed Miles Guo’s opinion in the live broadcast on May 24 that President Biden’s speech in Japan compelled the CCP to more likely besiege Taiwan rather than attack it. Thereby, Taiwan primarily needs to be vigilant to the political maneuvering of internal pro-communist forces and the weakened defense power because of promoting the CCP virus vaccination in Taiwan.
