UN Security Council Initially Support for Peaceful Solution on Russia-Ukraine War

It was reported by Taiwan media on May 6, the UN Security Council adopted the first statement on the Russia-Ukraine war without objection, which supports Secretary-General António Guterres’ efforts to find a “peaceful solution” to the crisis of Ukraine.

The statement notes, “The Security Council expresses deep concern regarding the maintenance of peace and security of Ukraine,” and “Recalls that all Member States have undertaken, under the Charter of the United Nations.” The statement also “Expresses strong support for the efforts of the Secretary-General in the search for a peaceful solution,” and Guterres was asked to brief the council again on the report of the Russia-Ukraine war.

It is reported that the statement was drafted jointly by Norway and Mexico. The content was unanimously agreed by the members of the Security Council, including Russia. Guterres said this is the first time the Security Council has raised the same voice for peace in Ukraine. The world must unite to end the war in order to uphold the values of the Charter of United Nations.
